Cut from full-grain hide — the outermost layer, with the grain intact. It is the densest part of the skin and the only grade that develops a patina instead of cracking. Saddle-stitched at stress points so a broken stitch cannot unravel a seam.

Which size suits you: a bifold folds once and stays slim enough for a front or back pocket. A trifold is shorter but thicker, and carries more cards. A long or checkbook wallet is sized so notes lie flat without folding, and is meant for a jacket or breast pocket rather than a back pocket. A slim card holder carries cards and a couple of notes and nothing more.

Leather softens and takes the shape of what you carry over the first few weeks. Avoid overfilling the card slots during that period — stretched slots do not fully recover.

Keep it dry, let it breathe, and condition two or three times a year with a neutral leather balm. Never dry leather with direct heat.
